Balmain Penthouse

2019

Inspired by the juxtaposition of old and new in the suburb itself, Balmain Penthouse is rich in natural light and ambient atmosphere with geometric architectural elements delineating the various areas in the interior.

The long narrow entrance hallway receives the soft indirect light which rebounds off the gently curved wall strategically placed at the end of the apartment nearest to the window, creating a subtle sophistication to the ambience within.

Reaching the end of hallway, a circular sloped cut divider intentionally delineates the space into kitchen /dining / living areas without severing the connection between three rooms. Full floor-to-ceiling windows maximize the natural light entering these areas and flooding the washed oak timber floor with shafts of beautiful light.

The master bedroom layout plays with the open-plan concept since it is without doors between the bedroom and the ensuite but still respects the privacy of the functional areas.

The colour scheme is the highlight of the design. Using the effects of contrasting colour combinations blended with the help to divides the spaces effectively functionally and have an eye-catching impression on the interior.

Taking into consideration of the original shape of the building, the public space is designed to include additional architectural elements.  The gentle sweep of curved walls coming out from the external brown-red brick walls give a subtle, stunning lighting effect for the interior whilst maintaining the privacy of the building. A connection with outside is formed through the extensive skylight which is the focal point of the public space.  Using outdoor plants to bring greenery into the interior softens the rough texture of the walls and provides a soothing effect in this area
